Research-Based Learning Seminar

Monday, March 25, 2019

Description

Research-based learning (RBL) is an approach for exploiting a variety of learning and teaching strategies so as to connect research and instruction. RBL can broadly be encased in inquiry-based learning and the features of undergraduate research. In other words, research is regarded as a theme which underpins teaching at a range of levels or throughout the course topics. This seminar aims at introducing RBL, and interlinking research and learning.

Objectives

  • Actively develop students’ independent research skills, and provide students with opportuni- ties to put these skills into practice, such that at the culmination of the programme, students are able to undertake, with supervision, a final year project and/or write a research paper.
  • Expose students to resources on/off campus that are essential for high quality research-based learning.
  • Active engagement with research provides a more enjoyable and stimulating university expe- rience.
  • Produce graduates with the desire and skills to pursue new knowledge and a commitment to a lifelong learning.
  • Graduates are well-equipped to be attractive and successful in the employment market.
